About Chuck

Chuck Bushbeck’s story is one of overcoming obstacles, and staying motivated even when the worst is ahead of you. Bushbeck was raised in Philadelphia and attended Father Judge High School where he excelled in football, baseball, and soccer. Prior to his graduation Bushbeck was being scouted for his baseball ability. However, all that changed his senior year when, after breaking the modern day field goal record for Philadelphia High Schools in the “All Star” game, Bushbeck was awarded a full 4-year scholarship to Villanova University.

While at Villanova, Bushbeck excelled in his art of kicking. He was nominated as “pre-Season All-American,” and was thought to be on the verge of re-writing the school’s record books. Then, in 1981, Villanova decided to drop its intercollegiate football program and Bushbeck was recruited to East Carolina University; a move that proved a life changing one for Chuck.

After participating in a routine physical at ECU, Bushbeck’s doctors became concerned about a lump under his arm and had it removed.  Once the tumor was removed Bushbeck was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease, a potentially fatal lymphatic cancer. This did not stop Chuck and as he underwent operations and frequent trips to the hospital he continued to play Division 1 football. His determination was the focus of media attention and drew nationwide notice. He has released his new book “Full Armor,” which chronicles his real-life experiences and how he was able to succeed despite the odds and achieve his dream of playing professional football.

After finally beating cancer, Bushbeck signed with the Memphis Showboats with the USFL in 1985 where he stayed a short time before leaving to enter the field of Behavioral Heath where he spent 30 years in the business and then 10 years in ongoing research in order to produce his new book, “Quiet Toughness”.

Bushbeck spent 11 years as a professional associate scout for the LA Angels and was featured as Comcast’s’ MVP (2006) for his work with inner-city baseball youth and has been featured on ABC Health watch for his expertise in pitching performance and keeping pitching arms safe. His work with athletes, preparing them for high school, college, and professional sports, both physically and mentally teaching his players how to access the “higher mind” for a true competitive edge, is what sets Chuck Bushbeck apart from other trainers motivational speakers.
